Why on Earth Did I Choose .xyz?

Greetings, beautiful people. ☕🙂
You may have noticed something slightly unusual about the name of this website.
It isn’t CryptoMatters.com.
It is CryptoMatters.xyz.
And perhaps you have wondered:
“Why .xyz?”
Fair question. 😊
After all, .com is probably the first thing that comes to mind when people think about a website. It has been around for decades, it is familiar, and it has become almost synonymous with the internet.
So why did CryptoMatters take a different path?
Well… there isn’t a complicated technical reason.
I simply liked .xyz.
And the more I thought about it, the more I felt that it suited what CryptoMatters was trying to become.
A little different
The .xyz domain has a rather interesting character.
It doesn’t immediately tell you what the website is supposed to be. It isn’t tied to a particular country, industry or traditional category.
It is simply:
.xyz
The final three letters of the English alphabet.
Simple. Short. A little unusual.
And perhaps that is part of the appeal.
CryptoMatters is about cryptocurrency, technology, wallets and digital ownership — subjects that are themselves relatively new compared with the traditional financial world.
So a conventional-looking website with a conventional-looking domain might have been the obvious choice.
But I wasn’t particularly interested in making CryptoMatters look like every other financial website.
I wanted it to have its own identity.
Why not .com?
There is nothing wrong with .com.
In fact, .com remains one of the most familiar and widely recognised domain extensions on the internet.
But familiarity isn’t always the same thing as personality. And finding the right .com domain for a name you actually want can be another matter altogether.
CryptoMatters.xyz was available.
It was simple.
It was memorable.
And, most importantly, it felt right.
Sometimes the simplest explanation is the most honest one.
I chose it because I liked it. 😄
It also feels at home in the technology world
There is another reason .xyz seemed appropriate. The extension has become associated with technology, startups, digital projects and companies looking toward the future.
One particularly well-known example is Alphabet, Google’s parent company, whose corporate website uses abc.xyz.
That doesn’t mean CryptoMatters is trying to compare itself with Alphabet — absolutely not! 😂
It simply showed that .xyz was no longer some strange extension sitting quietly in a corner of the internet waiting for someone to notice it. It had found a place in the modern technology landscape.
And that suited CryptoMatters.
A global little domain
Cryptocurrency doesn’t really belong to one country. Bitcoin doesn’t stop at a national border.
A recovery phrase doesn’t care whether you are in Germany, Japan, Brazil, Singapore or somewhere else in the world.
The subject is global. So I liked the idea of using a domain extension that wasn’t associated with a particular geographical location.
.xyz feels fairly universal.
There is no country attached to it.
Just X, Y and Z – the final three letters of the English alphabet.
And there is something else…
I think .xyz fits the slightly unconventional character of CryptoMatters.
This website isn’t designed to look like a traditional financial publication.
It isn’t packed with advertisements. It isn’t trying to cover every cryptocurrency under the sun.
It isn’t attempting to shout at visitors with endless banners, pop-ups and “BUY NOW!” buttons.
Instead, CryptoMatters is intended to be a relatively calm place to learn about cryptocurrency wallets, self-custody and the responsibilities that come with controlling digital assets.
Perhaps that makes .xyz an appropriate little finishing touch.
It is familiar enough to work. But different enough to be noticed.
So… why .xyz?
If you were hoping for some incredibly sophisticated explanation involving advanced digital strategy, market positioning and a twelve-page business plan… I’m afraid I have disappointed you. 😂
The answer is much simpler.
I wanted CryptoMatters to have an identity of its own.
I liked the sound of CryptoMatters.xyz.
It felt modern.
It felt technology-oriented.
It felt global.
And it was just different enough from the usual .com to make the name a little more memorable. More importantly, I think it suits the spirit of the website.
CryptoMatters is about learning something relatively new, taking responsibility for your digital assets and becoming a little wiser about the risks involved. So perhaps a slightly unconventional domain isn’t such a bad fit after all.
CryptoMatters.xyz.
Three little letters at the end.
Nothing magical.
Nothing that makes the website automatically better.
Just a small choice that gives the website a little bit of its own character.
And sometimes…
that’s enough. 😊
